MLA 8th Edition: Newspaper Article that Appears Online and in Print

An entry that appears at the end of your paper that starts on its own separate page.


Format:

All works cited should be double spaced, have a hanging indent and be listed in alphabetical order.  When using an article from a newspaper that is available in print and online, the elements to include are as follows:

If one author:

Author's Last Name, First Name. "Title of Article." Title of Newspaper, Day Month Year, Pages*, URL. Accessed Day Month Year

 

If two authors:

First Author's Last Name, First Name, and Second Author's Full Name. "Title of Article." Title of Newspaper, Day Month YearPages*, URL. Accessed Day Month Year

 

If three or more authors:

First Author's Last Name, First Name, et al. "Title of Article." Title of Newspaper, Day Month YearPages*, URL. Accessed Day Month Year

 

If an organization/corporation is the author:

Organization/Corporation's Name. "Title of Article." Title of Newspaper, Day Month Year, Pages*, URL. Accessed Day Month Year

In-Text Citation

In-Text Citation

Using in-text citation is necessary to help avoid instances of plagiarism.  It is an entry that appears in the body of your paper that includes the last name of the author(s).  As most online only resources do not have page numbers, these can be omitted from the in-text citation.

Examples:

If one author:

(Cronkite L7).

Cronkite stated that "Insert quoted text here" (L7).

 

If two authors:

(Cronkite and Walters L7).

Cronkite and Walters stated that "Insert quoted text here" (L7).

 

If three or more authors:

(Cronkite et al. L7).

Cronkite et al. that "Insert quoted text here" (L7).

 

If an organization/corporation is the author:

(The Modern News Group L7).

The Modern News Group stated that "Insert quoted text here" (L7).
