MLA 8th Edition: Two or More Magazine Articles with the Same Author

An entry that appears at the end of your paper that starts on its own separate page.


Format:

All works cited should be double spaced, have a hanging indent and be listed in alphabetical order.  When using more than one journal article with the same author, list the articles in alphabetical order.  For the first article list the author's name and then use a series of three hyphens for all subsequent works.  The elements to include are as follows:

If one author:

Author's Last Name, First Name. "Title of Article." Title of Magazine, Day Month Year, Pages.

---."Title of Article." Title of Magazine, Day Month Year, Year, Pages.

 

If two authors:

First Author's Last Name, First Name, and Second Author's Full Name. "Title of Article." Title of Magazine, Day Month Year, Pages.

---."Title of Article." Title of Magazine, Day Month Year, Year, Pages.

 

If three or more authors:

First Author's Last Name, First Name, et al. "Title of Article." Title of Magazine, Day Month Year, Pages.

---."Title of Article." Title of Magazine, Day Month Year, Pages.

 

If an organization/corporation is the author:

Organization/Corporation's Name. "Title of Article." Title of Magazine, Day Month Year, Pages.

---."Title of Article." Title of Magazine, Day Month Year, Pages.

If one author:

Dobbs, Bob. "Creating Websites: Is It for You." Computers Monthly,  15 May 2017, pp. 18-21.

If two authors:

In-Text Citation

In-Text Citation

Using in-text citation is necessary to help avoid instances of plagiarism.  It is an entry that appears in the body of your paper that includes the last name of the author(s), a shortened version of the title and page number when you express information or ideas taken from a source through a quote or by using your own words.  

Examples:

If one author:

(Dobbs, "Creating Websites" 18).

(Dobbs, "The Secret" 40).

Dobbs stated in "Creating Websites" that "Insert quoted text here" (18).

Dobbs stated in "The Secret" that "Insert quoted text here" (40).

Dobbs stated that "Insert quoted text here" ("Creating Websites" 18).

Dobbs stated that "Insert quoted text here" ("The Secret" 40).

 

If two authors:

(Dobbs and Wilson, "Creating Websites" 18).

(Dobbs and Wilson, "The Secret" 40).

Dobbs and Wilson stated in "Creating Websites" that "Insert quoted text here" (18).
